So back to my previous post.
If you just read the El Paso Times, you would have thought State Representative Claudia Ordaz did all sorts of heavy lifting and kicked ass.
But that is not true.
If anyone did any heavy lifting this past legislative session, it was State Representatives Joe Moody and Mary Gonzalez.
I gotta give the motherfucker - Moody - credit.
He landed on his feet after the previous Speaker got into some hot water talking shit about other legislators. Not that I care, but apparently some people did, who pretended to in order to use it their political advantage.
And Mary. Again, credit to her for landing plum committee assignments.
Because those two play ball and are friendly with Republicans they were rewarded.
But ultimately all things have a price.
When House Democrats walked out of the House chamber to break quorum over something about voting rights, Moody and Gonzalez apparently did not exactly join their colleagues in walking out.
I am not going to argue over the weeds about whether the bill was bad or good. Again, I do not care. And that bill, whether it becomes law someday, will not affect El Paso. El Paso will still be as blue as Bob Moore's ball after interviewing his favorite CongressX.
But I do find interesting is that, if true, Moody and Gonzalez did not catch any flak from the media.
I hate to bring it back to Norma Chavez, but I must.
Moody would bust Norma's balls because she was not a party hack when the Legislature convened.
Moody was Mr. Democrat.
But Moody eventually learned that being Mr. Democrat does not pay the bills. Rick Francis does.
Gonzalez was Ms. Pan Intersectionality, but if she wanted to accomplish anything she had to play ball.
Good for them and good for El Paso that they did.
But I do hope for their sake and for the sake of certain folks in local media take their opportunity to reflect on their own past actions.
Maybe times have changed, and what was a cardinal sin before, isn't anymore.
Or maybe it is just that the people we like that commit those sins, well, we just don't talk about it.
