Norma Chavez should run to take her old House seat back.
And if she listens to me, she will win.
Hell, I'll pay the filing fee. Not too far-fetched given I donated to her during her congressional race.
But first why Norma?
She would be the only candidate in the race that would be ready on day one of the job.
That AND she would bring seniority to that seat. Hell, she would bring more seniority to the job than Cesar Blanco. And that stuff does matter when it comes to committee assignments.
But perhaps more importantly, Norma DOES give a shit about El Paso.
No doubt she had her flaws, but she always busted her ass.
She would cross-the-aisle for El Paso even if it meant taking heat for it.
Sure, she had a graduation party. Not that I cared for it, but like any other woman Chavez just wants to feel appreciated.
You know what? A party once-in-a-while is far cheaper than providing a guy with no banking experience - Joe Moody - a six-figure job at a local bank.
Let us be honest, if we were to compare the legislative track records of the current Delegation with Chavez, Chavez blows them out-of-the-water.
Again, she had her flaws, but she got shit done.
And she did give a shit about her constituents. Now, let me be clear. I was hardly involved in the constituent casework. There were others who were far better at it than me, and enjoyed doing it. Me? I think Chavez thought I was a presumido. Which ain't too far off the mark. I'd be like, "Ugh. Peasants." Working for a Democratic office kinda tilted me in other direction as far as what government should do. But anywho.
"Max, you're just saying all this so can get a job at the Capitol."
No. At this point I am too much of a distraction, and too many people would be expecting apologies. But those people can kiss my beautifully sculpted hairy Mexican-Iranian ass. That is how you know I am not from El Paso. I have an ass. I still do leg day though.
Anyways.
Enough about me, back to Chavez.
So how does Chavez win?
Simple.
She does not campaign or at least campaign like she thinks she should.
Phuck the mailers or ads. Those are waste of money for someone like her.
She is not exactly an unknown quantity.
She DOES need to go to campaign events.
She DOES need to knock on doors, but not a frantic hurried paced.
The others? They will have to bust their ass because they are nobodies.
But she is a somebody, and she needs to act like one.
Chavez gets in trouble when she feels like the underdog.
Look, the El Paso Times is not going to endorse her, so she should avoid the stress of seeking its endorsement.
Which brings me to another point, she needs to pretend the media does not exist. It will help with the nerves.
She should treat this race like a stroll-in-the-park.
Let the other assholes for once feel like that they are in desperate situation.
Yes, they will say, "We need new blood."
Norma can point out, "We just had new blood representing this district House for the last 10 years, all we have to show for it is a DWI and a carpet-bagger seeking a promotion."
Or maybe not...even if it is honest.
