On Her Mary Way Back

So Mary IS running for re-election. 

There goes my hope for a State Representative Holguin.

Moving on though...

...did you all see the video with the rest of the delegation did in show of support for Mary?

Joe Moody look like he got his ass-kicked with that shiner around his eye.  That and he looks like he got in a fight with some semi-gloss paint.

Then Cesar Blanco.

That guys just bleeds mamón.

 

 

On Her Mary Way?

You already have one Lower Valley race with Iliana Holguin taking on Vincent Perez.

But could there be another one on the horizon?

Last I checked, your DiputadX Estatal, Mary Gonzalez, has NOT announced that she is running for re-election.  

And Labor Day is less than a week away. 

Yes, she is has been visible lately, and she has been saying things like "I will support and author bills...blah blah blah."

Or may be she is saying that just to keep up appearances.

Again, I can be wrong.

May she announced back in May or something, and I just did not get the memo.  

Which in the case this post blows.

BUT would it not be cool to have a County Commissioner Holguin and State Representative Holguin too!?!?

 

 

 

Iliana's Party

It looks like everybody and their grandmother showed up yesterday at Iliana Holguin's campaign kick-off. 

Now, I know Vincent Perez and his team want to make hay of the fact that Iliana had the local party use her husband's consulting firm.

But I got news for Team Vincent.

Nobody cares.

Mr. Ethics himself, your State Senator, Jose Rodriguez, shared the stage last night with Iliana.  

That and all the other local party stalwarts were there.  

If that does not show you "We don't give a shit" I don't know what will. 

Vincent has to be regretting right now NOT running for County Judge.  

 

 

 

Poor Cassandra Hernandez

I almost feel for your former, or soon-to-be former, City Representative Cassandra Hernandez.

When she first arrived on the scene she was married, and had the backing the El Paso's most influential political cabal...only whatever Veronica Escobar said was the limit.  

Fast forward to now...she is divorced and about to be kicked to the curb by her own colleagues. 

What happened? 

She must have pissed off everybody...including those who supported her.

Had she still been in Escobar's camp, do you think that this whole facebook announcement would have been in the news?  Nope.  Escobar and her minion, Susie Byrd, would have been the phone calling all the stations and the El Paso Times to squash the story.  

But nah. 

They let her hang.  

You gotta wonder what went wrong between Cassandra and her former political patrona.

Or just maybe Escobar should have never gotten involved with Cassandra to begin with.  

Either way, if Cassandra was going to break with Escobar, she need to buddy-up with somebody else.  

But she could not even do that. 

Now, here she is.

Yes, she can sue.  But at that point your kinda kissing your mayoral chances goodbye. 

Nobody likes a sore loser.  But everybody does love a comeback story. 

 

 

 

 

So Why Run Against Vincent?

Why would Iliana Holguin run against Vincent Perez?

Because you make $100,000 plus benefits for showing up to work once-a-week.  Hell, if you are Carl Robinson, you are making that much and showing up even less.

"But she's an attorney!"

She's an immigration attorney.  And those are a dime a dozen in El Paso.  That and your clients are one-time clients, and because they are poor it ain't like they can have you on a retainer. 

Also, there's Eddie.

Eddie can probably boost his own consulting business by having his better half in government.  

Is any of this wrong?

I dunno. 

I mean it is par for course in El Paso.

You CongressX and her husband are both in government.

Vincent and his wife are both in government. 

The Reyes and Morenos had everybody in government. 

If anything, it is El Paso. 

El Paso is mom-and-pop.  And so is its government. 

 

 

 

Vincent Perez and Stuff

Not exactly news that your Democratic Party Chair, Iliana Holguin, is running against County Commissioner Vincent Perez.  

And it is not exactly news that your former County Judge, Veronica Escobar, did not necessarily leave on good terms with Perez.  

That all being said, I did not think Veronica would want to touch this race with a 10-foot pole.  

But it looks like she has:

As much as Veronica would like to say, "I'm not involved. I am staying out of it", she is putting herself in it by hosting a fundraiser at Iliana's house just shortly after Iliana announced she is running against Vincent. 

This does not bode well for Vincent.  

If it were just Iliana and her husband's merry band of consultants, I would say Vincent got this. 

But it looks like it is not just them against Vincent. 

It is everybody and their CongresspersXn.

 

 

 

Construction Site Attire

When visiting a construction site, always make sure your toes are covered. 

Besides the fact nobody really wants to see your Barney Rubble-feet, you can get injured.  Also, your already ashy feet will get even ashier from all the drywall dust.

Open-toed shoes are a no-no

 

 

 

 

Words Matter

...at least until they don't. 

Remember, right now a lot of you are pissed because the President uses inflammatory language and stuff. 

So what happens if somebody else uses "inflammatory language"?

What if somebody happens to be a Republican and uses sexist and homophobic language to describe fellow members?

Well, if you are Democrat in the El Paso Delegation apparently you forgive and forget?

Here is what the Texas LGBTQ Caucus, of which Mary Gonzalez is a member, had to say about it:

Really.

Let me be clear, I do not care what the Speaker said.  

But I do find it funny that when Norma Chavez had said something to say about my ex-girlfriend's taste in women everybody in El Paso took Norma Chavez to the woodshed. 

Rich, wealthy and white Republican says something, and it is "wait and see".

So why "wait and see"?

Because maybe if you are a Democrat on the Speaker's team, like Joe Moody and Mary Gonzalez, maybe you do not want to rush to condemn the Speaker because maybe you are not entirely too confident in your party's chances to take back the Texas House so you play it safe. 

Again, it is funny. 

Norma Chavez made no bones about why she supported a Republican Speaker.  She wanted a seat at the table. 

These folks? 

They want you to think they are achieving some higher purpose, but they are just as calculating as Norma.  

Only difference...Norma got bad press for it.

 

 

 

Moody Blues

Mr. Joe Moody passed up a chance to become DA in order to do bigger and better things in Austin. 

But man how much his world has changed since then.

His boss, the current Republican Speaker of the House, is in some serious hot water.

There is the allegation about the Speaker trying to pick off members of his own party.  

But that does not move the needle much for most except for Republicans.

It is the allegations of the other stuff that Speaker has said about other members of the Legislature that might make any "good Democrat" question his or her relationship with that Speaker.

What was said?

If only the Speaker had said "grab 'em by the pussy".

And as the Speaker's second-in-command, Moody is tied to this...at least until Moody cuts the tie.

So what does Moody do? What are his options?

As I see it there a couple of ways this plays out. 

Should Republicans maintain the House, more than likely there will be a new Speaker, and Joe Moody will be kicked to the curb.

If Democrats take the House, which could happen (reason why it may not happen is due to lack of a straight ticket vote option), Moody is still gonna get kicked to the curb.  It is not because Democrats do not like him, but the Democratic party is a "wait your turn" and "pay your dues" kinda party.  Other more senior members within his party get the plum assignments before him.  

So again what does he do?

If he wants to maximize the shitty hand he has been dealt, he cuts ties with the Speaker and denounces him.  

That will get him attention, and attention is currency. 

Or he can do the "honorable" thing and stick it out to the bitter end, but then he will be sticking with a guy who wished he had only said "grab'em by the pussy."

Long story short, Moody has no easy path. 

Had he ran for DA, his political fate would have been in his hands.  

But he choose another fate, one that involves the fates of others.  

That is not the kind of fate you want to have.

 

 

What Now

Up until Saturday around noon, things seemed hopeless for Beto. 

But a tragedy occurred. 

And once again, it is the Beto show.  

Is that right? Is that wrong? 

I do not know.

It what it is.

But do not kid yourself.

Any person that became president had to do things most normal people wouldn't do to get to the top.

The other presidential candidates are kinda waiting this out. 

But it appears one is not.  Or at least his brother is not.  That candidate's brother took a swing at elderly Trump donors. 

Politics is dirty.

And some of its dirtiest players are the ones that call us to "elevate discourse" or say "This is not who we are."

But oh it is.  

Again, back to Beto.

Beto is talking from both sides of his mouth. 

He wants to mourn, but he is running Twitter ads to raise money for his campaign. 

But that's why when people say that Trump needs to stop being Trump or be softer-around the edges, it is like why?

At least Trump does not hide behind some fake smile, and you know he is in it for himself.

The other guys and gals? 

They just lie about it.
