For allegedly being the least popular president ever, and holding a rally in a predominately Hispanic, and Democratic-stronghold, your President, Donald Trump, held the biggest rally held by any Republican in El Paso's history.
That's win a folks.
Meanwhile, hometown hero, Roberto O'Rourke spread himself thin by having a pre-march rally, march and then another rally. And more importantly he squandered yet another great opportunity to announce that he is running for President....assuming of course he wants to. I dunno. One problem why Beto lost his Senate race, which happens to be the same problem he has now with his alleged presidential ambitions is that he has not shifted gears. He acts like he is just barely out-of-the-gate.
In a way Trump's rally was Trump giving Roberto his own medicine. Roberto would travel across the state in deep-red areas holding rallies, and be like "Thank you, Lubbock, I phucking love you guys!" Now, Trump returns the favor.
But enough about Roberto.
The best part of the evening was of course your local journos.
Trump being the storyteller that he is he exaggerates time-to-time. When he said the counter-rally had only 200 or 300 people in goes the entire El Paso Times newsroom thinking, "Guys, we cannot let him get away with this! One thing is pushing a proposal to sell our building, another thing is lying about attendance numbers!!! We are gonna get that sonofabitch!!!"
Regardless how you feel about Trump he was good for El Paso.
When the Democrats starting to off each other politically in their own presidential primary, they ALL are gonna come to El Paso. Which can only help the hotel folks, which can only help service the ballpark.
So yea, Trump not only wants to secure the border, but he wants to help payoff the ballpark.
