Here and There

Some quick thoughts...

• "Nationalism" - I do not get offended nor am I scared of nationalism.  Some of you think of Nazis, I think of Mohammed Mossadegh, Lazaro Cardenas, and Jacobo Arbenz.
• Birthright Citizenship - I am AGAINST ending birth right citizenship, HOWEVER, I understand how some so-called nativists can feel frustrated about the whole thing because quite frankly the other side wants to do nothing.   All you hear is talk about "dignity" and "hugs" and other non-sense that is not really solution-oriented.  You have a guy from the border running for Senate talking about how Texas should lead on the immigration debate, but that is where his conversation starts and ends on the topic.   And no, families should not be separated, but don't tell me the tents are bad.  It has been a few years since I was last in Guatemala, but parts of rural Guatemala and the shantytowns built into the hillside outside of Guatemala City might have you reconsider how "inhumane" tents with HVAC really are.  I am generally opposed to intervening in other countries, but some countries may need some "guidance" or "assistance" if you will.  Certainly you must tread careful because then we are back to nationalism.
• Dirty Politics - Tired of dirty politics?  Yea, right.  Our political situation is not any worse today than it was yesterday.  If anything it is better, or at the very least par for course.  Look, former Speaker Jim Wright was accused of murder when ran for re-election early in his political career.  And that was back in the "good ol' days".   It is not that our politics are nastier today than yesterday, it is just that everything happens so quickly that we tend to have even shorter memories.  Yes, there are some folks that probably should get the death penalty, but their actions probably have less to do with politics than with something else that is more deeply-seated.    You want to talk about divisive politics...talk about Colombia.  That country was at war with itself for over half a century.  Our "war" involves Twitter, not arm shipments from Israel or Cuba.  

Beto Not

I have soured on Beto.

And I will be voting for the Madman from Calgary.

Is it because I see the writing on the wall for Beto?

No.

Despite polling, I still think Beto has a good shot here.

So what gives?

We have seen this campaign before.

I voted for hope and change twice, and well, we didn’t get much of either.

I always imagined Beto being a kind of Lloyd Bentsen-esque larger-than-life figure, and not some social climber or empty vessel.

After the primary I thought he would have quit this Pollyanna bullshit and shift gears, but no....it is still all Whataburger and Willie.  Both of which are things a lot of people pretend to like.

And yeah, it hurts to know I am voting for the Alberta Dork after having given money to the Bike Messenger.

But hey as they say, “La plata viene y va”.

And don’t kid yourselves about Beto about not wanting to run for POTUS should he win the Senate seat.

You know how it will play out...“I talked to Ulysses and he said, 'Dad, but America needs you'...and I was like,  'You’re right, like fuck yea, America needs THIS.”

And it will be more INSERT FAST FOOD JOINT and MUSICAL  ARTIST.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BREAKING NEWS - BETO O'ROURKE!!!

Beto O'Rourke passed gas in his truck shortly after scarfing down a Whataburger breakfast taquito. 

And although the fart nearly blew-off what little ass cheeks he has, he remained steadfast in his commitment to make sure that both his right and left ass cheek remain united by the common bond that is his torso. 

Beto also asked supporters to donate 5 bucks in order to buy a new pair of chinos, which resulted in a $1 million cash haul.
