Beto and Healthcare

In the words of our former Dear Leader, let me be clear.

I was long in the tank for Beto long before it was cool to be in the tank for Beto.

BUT I've got a bone to pick with Beto.

It is about this whole healthcare thing.

He thinks healthcare should be a right.

Yea...no.

Now, there are those who get the shit lottery.

By "shit lottery" I mean cancer, preexisting conditions, rare diseases, and so forth, and by God, we should empty the treasury for those folks.  Call it communism, I don't give a shit.  I'm for it.

But then there are these folks:

Who wants to underwrite the health insurance policy for that guy?

An obese smoker who consumes alcohol.

Why is it our responsibility to provide healthcare for someone who does not give a shit about his?

To be fair, I too was a bit of a pudgy guy.  I was hovering around 230 pounds, but I have slimmed down to 190.   Why? Cos' being fat sucks.  Forget image, it leads to poor health outcomes, and while Blue Cross Blue Shield is great company, I have no interest in wanting to find out how great it is. 

So for every tragedy we hear about, there are many folks, like that guy above, who are too lazy to give a rat's fuck about themselves.

So if Beto can explain why we should care about the health of those who don't care for themselves, I am all ears.   

 

 

Marisa Marquez for County Judge

So far the people who have announced or are considering to run for County Judge are all kinda sorry.

The only reason John Cook is running is because he is looking for an excuse to be out-of-the-house for the same reason why married men golf...to avoid their wives. 

Commissioner David Stout is only considering it because Veronica Escobar and Susie Byrd told him to consider it  only to troll the shit out of Commissioner Vince Perez.

Commissioner Leon? He just wants to remind you that he exists.

Looking for someone better to be your County Judge?

May I suggest Marisa Marquez.

Sure, Marquez is in the private sector now, but after Escobar having voted herself two pay raises, being County Judge is a cush job.

Despite what Escobar wants you to believe, County Judges have very few responsibilities - keep the tax rate low, run a jail and a hospital.  Even then, jail and hospital operations and management are farmed out.

Now that Marquez is a mom, she needs a job that is less time consuming and stressful.  Private sector pay might be better, but when you have to eat what you kill...

So what does Marquez have to do to win?

She just has to say something like, "Unlike the current County Judge, I promise to not vote to give myself pay raises, I will keep the tax rate low, and I won't backstab Vince Perez."

You think Cook can make a promise like that?

 

Poor Vince Perez: Parte Dos

Poor Commissioner Vince Perez.

First, County Judge Veronica Escobar shows what she thinks of him by endorsing former do-nothing Mayor John Cook for County Judge.

And now, THIS.

Poor Perez went out-of-his-way to have a press conference on a Sunday to announce his effort to end that federal contract.

He even had his former intern write-up a blog post with pie charts and everything.  

And when he shows up to Commissioners Court, Escobar left  him to hang out to dry.

Escobar, who has given herself two pay raises, and given you in return a bankrupt hospital, had the audacity to talk about prudence and responsibility.

The real reason why Escobar phucked over Perez was not because of prudence and responsibility, it because she does not want a bunch of laid-off county employees looking for blood if and when she decides to run for Congress.

I just want to know when it stops.

Perez, along with his former intern, have carried water for Escobar.

At what point does it stop?

If Escobar gave a damn about Perez, she probably would have told him, "Hey, I know you mean well, but before this press conference, let's talk."

But who am I kidding?

If and when Escobar decides to run for Congress, Perez will be right behind her looking like a fool.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Free Willie

I have been busy with my day job. 

But I am glad to know Willie Gandara is free.

I hope he makes a comeback.

Yes, he sold copious amounts of weed, but liquor distributors and manufacturers of opioids are far worse in my book. 

Do not get me wrong.

Weed is not my herb of choice.

Fernet Branca is.

But that being said, what rubbed most people wrong about Willie is what I think is most awesome about him - a Lower Valley family that made money off of something far from glamorous, but money they made nonetheless.

I just hope Willie does not go about apologizing for selling something that Susie Byrd,  County Judge Veronica Escobar , and our next U.S. Senator, Beto O'Rourke, believe should be sold on demand and without apology.
