Yes, I have been AWOL.

But for good reason. 

I am trying to learn another language before I head out-of-the-country in February.  So more Duolingo and Rosetta Stone, and less Max. 

But I hear that they have had to send SRT into the Capitol to find State Representative Lina Ortega who got lost on her way to the restroom. 

Keep her in your prayers!

Can Emma Acosta Win?

Maybe.

I thought it was silly at first the idea Emma Acosta would want to run for mayor and expect to win. 

But after some thought - and no, I did not hurt myself - she might be onto something. 

Dee Margo.

David Saucedo.

Possibly Ted Houghton.

What do all those three have in common? They are all Republican men. 

All three would be going after the same narrow slice of muni voters. 

Normally party ID does not matter in a muni race, but here party ID might be Acosta's biggest selling point...in addition to the fact she is a Hispanic woman.

Acosta won't be raising money, but in race with three Republicans going after the same small pot of Westsiders, Acosta won't need it.

All Acosta needs is enough Democrats to turn out, and in a low-voter turnout muni election, that bar ain't too high.

 

 

Vince Perez Hearts Veronica Escobar Again

Per David K, County Commissioner Vince Perez loves Shapleigh and Company again.

Why is that?

It is simple. 

If Congressman Beto O'Rourke does run for U.S. Senate, an office which has expressed interest in, then there are all sorts of openings around town.

But Shapleigh and Company already have people in mind for those open seats.

Congress? Veronica Escobar. 

County Judge? Hmmmmm.

Perez would love to be County Judge. 

But for whatever reason, he feels he would have an easier time becoming the next County Judge with Shapleigh and Company supporting him rather than having them run against him.

Here is the deal though.

Shapleigh and Company do not have anybody to run for County Judge. 

I guess Perez fears that a David Stout candidacy for County Judge would be too much to handle?

Or maybe he worries that Bob Moore might destroy him?

Anyways.

Unless State Representative Cesar Blanco decides to run for Congress, more than likely, your next Congressperson is Veronica Escobar.  You know damn sure she will not give herself a self-imposed term limit. 

And your next County Judge? Vince Perez. 

To be fair, Perez will be an improvement over the current County Judge.

While on the other hand, the next Congressperson representing El Paso will be a Paul Moreno in a skirt and chanclas.
