A couple of weeks ago, the El Paso chapter of the American Federation of Teachers had a list of demands that needed to be met before it could endorse the EPISD bond package.
One of the demands involved the Forma Group.
Better said, one of the demands asked that Forma Group NOT be involved.
The reason?
Per the El Paso Times:
The stipulation about Forma Group is partially due to a heated spring primary race for a Texas House seat, Moore said. Forma received nearly $300,000 from a pro-charter-school group to defeat one of the candidates, Rep. Mary González, in the primary against former state Rep. Chente Quintanilla.
And if you think about it, this demand by these El Paso teachers is kinda odd.
Why is it odd?
Well, that pro-charter-school group happens to be Texans for Education Reform.
Any guess as to who is on the board of that organization?
Oh, that's right, El Paso's own Woody Hunt.
You know who is donating money to support the EPISD bond package?
The same Woody Hunt that is on the Texas for Education Reform board.
If El Paso teachers had balls maybe they would have said, "EPISD, you won't have our support if Woody Hunt is involved."
But no because that would require...balls.
That and teachers are generally broke/cheap asses, and need Woody's money.
So the Forma Group becomes the punching bag because of teacher cowardice.
Oh well.
Here is what I do not understand though.
Let us say you are successfully able to run the Forma Group out-of-business, is the next consulting firm or individual gonna say, "Woody, I am not going to accept this $300,000 contract for 6-months of work on the basis of principle"?
