A couple of weeks ago I told you about an open records request I put in with UMC.
I was looking for email correspondence between UMC CEO Jim Valenti's official email account and County Judge Veronica Escobar's personal email account.
One person - Rotten Peppers - commented that I should ask Escobar as well for those emails.
Well, I did, but not before I asked UMC. There's a reason for that.
If I had asked Escobar's office first, Escobar's office could have responded by saying that County business is not conducted on personal emails, and that would be the end of that.
Having another party involved mucks things up.
Valenti is not going to go out of his way to protect Escobar. He's done that enough already.
The attorneys at the County Attorney's office also are not going to go out of their way to cover-up for Escobar. If there is one thing attorneys love more than their own clients, it is their state bar license.
So what has happened since my request?
Well, it turns out Escobar does conduct County business on her personal email account, but UMC wants an AG's opinion about releasing that information.
One thing of interest in the letter the County sent the AG regarding my request was that it did not make mention of the fact that the email account in question - [email protected] - belongs to an elected official.
