In a few words or less, someone likely Norma Chavez, who took 25-years to "complete" her degree, is a success according to Natalicio.  

In Natalicio's world, somehow "completion" is different from "graduation".  

It gets better.

Despite the fact that her institution and her salary come from public funds, namely you, she is of the idea that, "Hey, what's with all the deadlines and time constraints?  That does not happen in the real world"?

What does not not happen in the real word, if ever, is someone hold the same job position for 25-years.  

Take that back.

There are people who hold down the same job for 25-years: postal workers and third world despots.

She has the audacity to criticize current metrics used to determine success, but fails, on purpose, to come up with a metric of her own.  

But then again she is a trained linguistic, not an administrator. 

The only thing she does know how to do is mince words, especially about her accomplishments, more specifically lack thereof.

Why We Should Not Allow The Tiguas To Re-open Speaking Rock

Since Speaking Rock closed, we always hear about the "plight" of the Tiguas, and how they have been denied their right to "self-determination".

If only we would let them run a casino, they would no longer suck on the government's teat.

Well, it looks like even one of the more successful tribes, which runs a billion-dollar casino, that had given up on sucking on the government's teat, is now having second thoughts.

Why Max Does Not Care For The Police (And CLEAT)

I do not mean the band.  Although the earlier stuff was much better than the later stuff.  The earlier stuff was more punk.  

But I digress.

The cops, and firemen, are supposed to serve and protect you.

But it appears they are more interested in serving and protecting their pensions: Read here.

There are cities across America that are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy because of successful lobby efforts (cough...CLEAT...cough) by law enforcement to pad their pensions.  

Granted, at the onset, it was not entirely their fault.  They took lower pay for the promise of a solid retirement, but times change.  This is not the 1950s when America reigned supreme economically...so much that it bailed out Europe and Japan.  

This is 2013.  

America, as well as many of her municipalties, cannot keep up with her own bills.

Damn economics and accounting, cops want their pensions.

Think about it.

If you go to a liquor store and steal a bottle of Jack, the cops send you to jail.  But if you "mismanage" $270 million, you get a cop's vote of confidence.

 

 

 

 

A lesson to be learned from Capetto's

You all probably saw the story about the owner of Cappetto's getting arrested for writing hot checks.

There is a lesson to be learned from this story, specifically for business.  

If you owe money, but you do not have any money to pay, then do not pay.  The worse thing that happens is that your vendor sends your account to collections.  From there got nearly a year or more, to figure things out.

The only vendor you do not want to mess with is a landlord.

 

Naomi Gonzalez's Crash Victims Speak

I am sure you all have seen this article about Naomi Gonzalez's crash victims: Read Here!

The victims have every right to be mad.

But what I don't get is what one of the victims said:

"It wasn't my fault that I hit her," Stagner said. "I swerved as much as I could. I have to actually remind myself that I'm the reason she didn't get hit going like 50 miles an hour by a drunk driver. That there is a reason that she is for the most part alright now because I was behind her and my car took the impact. (emphasis added)"

You all have a seen a Fiat, right?

I am not a crash engineer nor have I read the police report, but a BMW at 50 mph seems like it would knock the shit out of a Fiat.  At that speed I am not sure the driver of Fiat would be exactly as calm as a Hindu cow, and would actually be in a state of mind to take such a defensive manuever.

Naomi Gonzalez: A word from a loved one...

...possibly.

Someone claiming to Naomi Gonzalez's aunt recently posted a comment under the name "Naomi's Aunt" on this blog.

I have no reason to suspect based on the tone of the comment that said commenter is not a relative of Naomi's.  

So I'll post an excerpt from that comment here:

This is very out of character for Naomi. I know she is experiencing some personal issues right now with her Mother having brain surgery yesterday for a blood clot. I know Naomi has been under a lot of stress. I am not condoning what she did. It was very wrong but I know she will learn from this and not make this mistake again. People can say what they like as we do have freedom of speech but sometimes a little understanding goes a long way.

Take from it what you will.

What is the Border Trade Advisory Committee?

We might as well find out what it is since Joe Moody wants to make that Committee study trade traffic along the border and issue recommendations in 2015 to help reduce congestion.  Yea.  I know.

Per the Texas Department of Transportation's website:

The Border Trade Advisory Committee provides a forum for the exchange of communications between the Transportation Commission, TxDOT, the governor and committee members representing border trade interests. The committee's advice and recommendations will provide them with a broad perspective regarding the effect of transportation choices on border trade in general and on particular communities. The members of the committee also provide an avenue for interested parties to express opinions with regard to border trade issues.

The committee has about 25 members.  For realz.

Some of those members happen to be around from these parts.  You might recognize a Walter Miller, Mayor of Horizon.  He represents the El Paso MPO on the Committee.  

Another local member is the City of El Paso's own Bridge Director, Said Larib-Cherif.  

Basically, Joe Moody is requiring people like Mayor Miller and Larib-Cherif who have issued recommendations before to put their recommendations, again, to paper.

Yes, I said "again".
