In my not so humble opinion, Emma Acosta has a shot at being your next mayor.
She is the most well-known Democratic Latina in the race.
On the other hand, this is a municipal election, not the Democratic primary.
I have said it before, and I will say it again, if Emma wants to really standout she would come out against the downtown arena. Her base would rather see that bond money go to street repairs rather than an empty arena. Hell, Westsiders would rather see that money go to street repair rather than an arena. After all, Westsiders already have an empty arena in their neck of the woods.
So why is Emma still "for" it?
Well, I have a hunch.
And no, does not have to with that bullshit answer of "Well, we have to honor the decision voters made blah blah blah..."
Per her website, Acosta is a "licensed Boxing Event Coordinator":
A new arena in a town that loves boxing would seem like good business for a licensed Boxing Event Coordinator.
And imagine being a Mayor that moonlights as a licensed Boxing Event Coordinator? Business can be even better.
Is this an issue?
I do not see an issue with a mayor have a second-job because mayoral pay is shit.
I do not see an issue with a boxing-promoting mayor.
So what's the issue, if there is one?
That Acosta knows the arena will be a money-loser, but if she can manage to get something out for herself, in this case a few boxing events, she doesn't care.
Oh, there is another issue.
I searched for her license, but I got nothing: Download License Search Results
Now, it is possible that my own search was wrong, and if I am wrong, then please let me know.
I know Chris over at David Saucedo's campaign reads, maybe he might know something about this.
