Leave it up to Commissioner Sergio Lewis, who comes up with piss-poor radio ads, to come up with "Little Mexico."
I don't know what to say. I thought all of El Paso was "Little Mexico". Half this town doesn't speak English anyways.
Sergio talks about how New York City and Los Angeles have benefitted from their Chinatown. He is comparing apples to oranges. Chinese-Americans are not the majority in either of these cities. And the reason why these neighborhoods existed to begin with was to act as refuge from all the discriminatory bullshit going on around them.
That's the other thing. You do not just create an insta-neighborhood. It does not work that way. Even Castro in San Francisco, which as has been known as gay-borhood, is becoming, well, less gay.
San Antonio has something like a "Little Mexico" downtown, and it sucks. It has the Mi Terra restaurant (eh), and stores selling zarapes. Just imagine El Paso Saddle Blanket and Carlos & Mickey's on one block, and you have a "Little San Antonio"...err..."Little Mexico".
Another problem is La Mujer Obrera. They have been trying for years to leech off of different levels of government to create their own mercado. If there are any plans for a Little Mexico you can bet your sweet ass those old hags from La Mujer Obrera will be out protesting.
In the event though El Paso does move forward with "Little Mexico", for the sake of authenticity let's have a strip club, a bar with cheap drinks, a farmacia and a VIPS. That's I all need from Mexico.
I can ALMOST defend Serg (in a backward sort of way) by reminding everyone that when he was campaigning on those mindless, local "radio shows," that he NEVER mentioned what changes he would like to make or what things his opponet did wrong. All he said was that 'good is good', 'the sky is blue' and 'corruption is bad.' That was enough for the typical brain-dead El Pasoan to come out and vote for him.

Lewis is an idiot who loves to hear himself talk, uses lots of words he finds in the thesaurus, and says absolutely nothing. The U.S. government should stop using water boarding as a torture method and instead utilize the mindless babbling of Sergio Lewis to extract information from our enemies. I now understand why the El Paso Times refused to endorse anyone when he was running for his seat on commissioners court. His opponent was that crazy guy who runs for every seat in town (I can't remember his name right now). Even Lewis was not an acceptable alternative to the paper. I couldn't agree more.
